Laings, Glasgow

Torridon were appointed by Laings on a multi-stage renovation of a historic Glasgow building, paving the way for subsequent phases by relocating current operations to newly refurbished spaces. The renovation involved creating upscale office space, watch laboratories, and a secure modular room, all the while managing structural enhancements to suite the new configuration. The comprehensive fit-out entailed new mechanical and electrical systems, finishes, and customised joinery.

The project, however, came with unique challenges due to its location on Buchanan street and its listed status, necessitating careful design in accordance with conservation guidelines and statutory compliance. Torridon played a crucial role in understanding these technicalities, advising on feasibility, and developing the procurement strategy. Our tender documents emphasised building constraints, design intent, and heritage requirements, resulting in a final sum in line with pre-tender estimates. Collaboration was essential throughout, especially as concurrent landlord-led refurbishments required a harmonised approach, clearly laid out in contract preliminaries and documents.
